Milan
The first Italian Starbucks opened in Milan on September7th. It’s the biggest shop in Europe and it was also defined the most beautiful in the world. This is due not only to the exclusive location, but also to the presence of original works of art, including one by the Tuscan sculptor Giovanni Balderi.
This artist is acquiring a growing reputation on both national and international level. His particular marble’s manufacture characterizes him and makes him unique.
Balderi realized a mermaid, symbol of Starbuck, in white Carrara’s marble, the same used by the great Renaissance Masters. Just as sailors were lured in by mermaids, the public is charmed and fascinated by Balderi’s sculpture.
The artwork, that seems carved by wind and light, is ethereal and pure. The sinuous figure rests one side, as if she could flee at any moment.
The exceptional skills of Balderi are shown through his stunning ability of giving movement to the marble blocks, thus making emotions visible. The artist himself has
said “a sculpture it’s finished when, as snowflakes, the form lays on the emotions”.
