Frilli Gallery and Pneuma Art Foundation
Galleria Frilli is pleased to announce a new collaboration with Pneuma Art Foundation to support the talent of the new generations of artists who live and work in Florence.
Pneuma Art Foundation, founded in 2022, is a new and dynamic non-profit association whose goal is to support and cultivate the artistic passion of young emerging talents who train in Florence, in a dialogue between innovation and the spirit of the ancient masters who continue to inspire the artistic panorama of the future.
The theme of this collaboration includes a unique challenge, an event that aims to bring together contemporary artists to try their hand at re-imagining the iconic doors of the Baptistery by Lorenzo Ghiberti, famously known as the "Gates of Paradise".
In an unprecedented artistic exhibition, twenty talented artists associated with Pneuma together with others who wish to compete freely by registering for the competition on the website https://www.thepneuma.org/porta-paradisi-call, will try to bridge the gap between the past and the present in the history of art of a timeless masterpiece.
For each of the 10 replicas of the Ghiberti panels, 2 artists will be selected to recreate their interpretation of one of the themes of the Old Testament, offering new contemporary and current perspectives.
As the fulcrum of the exhibition, the Frilli Gallery is making available its replicas from original casts of the panels of the Doors of the Baptistery by Ghiberti. In the 1990s, the Frilli Gallery created, from a cast of the original, the replica of the famous doors by Ghiberti that are now being replaced in the Baptistery of San Giovanni.
On the occasion of this unprecedented exhibition that will open in Florence in October 2025, visitors will have the opportunity to experience up close the majesty of the stories told through the intricate chiseling work of these masterpieces, in the replicas of all ten panels that Galleria Frilli will exhibit in comparison with the twenty current re-interpretations, two for each panel, of the young participating artists.
The artists will be able to adopt a more conceptual approach, drawing inspiration from the theme, the aesthetics, the overall composition of the chosen panel. This approach will create a diverse collection of full-round sculptural and pictorial works of art with the aim of exploring universal themes that remain current for humanity over the centuries, all through a new and contemporary perspective.
The aim of this exhibition is also to offer the possibility of a journey through time that invites us to explore the lasting impact that art has on the history of humanity and how its narratives have deep roots that from the past continue to resonate and inspire the modern world.
More details about the event will be announced later. For artists who wish to participate, below is the link to register for the competition that will be available from 12/13/24 to 01/13/25:
