The statue, of exceptional technical and artistic quality, has as its reference model a Roman replica of a Hellenistic example from the 3rd century BC. belonging to the Medici collections of the Tribuna di Firenze, the original nucleus of the Uffizi Musem, that is a place of wonder where one could directly compare the works of the ancients, represented by the sculpture, and those of the modern, with paintings. Together with this dancing Faun, around the precious table inlaid in semi-precious stones, some of the most famous ancient scultures of the Medici were placed, such as the Lottatori, the Arrotino, the Scita, the Apollino and above all the famous Venus de' Medici.
Its realization can be attributed to the sculptor Gaspero Bruschi, former student of the Academy of Design Arts in Florence, who maintained the direction of the plastic production of the Ginori Manifattura of Doccia until 1780.
