The Danish artist Bjørn Skaarup realized a series called “Carnival of the animals”, from the musical suite of the same name, written by the French composer Camille Saint-Saens, which transform animal attributes into music.
The artist creates a world of joy and delightful humour. It is inspired by many traditions, as well as that of the Fables of Aesop. Most of the stories of the ancient Greek writer speak of animals that have human characteristics.
The elephant, the largest land mammal, has a legendarily good memory. It is also known for its mild and gentle nature, yet occasionally it erupts in rage, destroying everything on his path. The elephant has been used as both a working animal and circus attraction, both of which are brought together in this rendition. It was once popular to hunt tigers from astride an elephant's back. This time, however, the roles are turned upside down and the swollen belly of the tiger is witnessing the triumph recently celebrated over the human adversary.
