Anne Shingleton has long accustomed us to a maniacal attention to detail, to the naturalness of the movements of her animals due to her experience in the matter. Anne's love for the natural world derives from her childhood and from her years spent on her parents' farm in Dorset (England), which led her to study zoological sciences and subsequently specialize in illustration at the University of Art.
The work "Hibrido" represents the will to overcoming our limits through abilities we don't actually possess, talents denied us by nature that sometimes holds us back. And yet Anne Shingleton's toads leap up high, twirling around to reach their prey. Unlike frogs, toads have never been destined for anything but short little hops. But these toads literally soar in defiance of physical laws. This is the amazing power of artists like Anne: the ability to study, empathize with and, above all, anatomically understand their subject.
