Lost wax bronze replica.
The original masterpiece was realized by Pio Fedi, located under the Loggia dei Lanzi, Florence. It was carved between 1855-1865 and it is considered the masterpiece of the artist and one of the most significative of the italian nineteenth-century sculpture.
The subject of the sculture is Polissena, youngest daughter of Priamo, abducted by Pirro, to be sacrificed in forecast of the departure of the Greek ships for the return from the war of Troia. The violence of the abduction is underlined by the killing of the brother of Polissena, Polidoro, fallen to defend his sister, and from the arm lifted of Pirro with the sword grasped that it is about to wave the hit to also kill the mother of Polissena Ecuba, that tries to hold him back.
