Silent Dancer after Antonio Canova

Antonio Canova was a famous neoclassical sculptor who worked in Italy and in other countries. He was great for his marble sculptures that delicately rendered nude or draped bodies. The Dancers are one of his favourite subjects due to their light and elegant shapes carved in pure white Carrara marble.
His dancers were represented in groups, in separated couples or, in this case, as a single delicate dancer in classic light movement.
