Ferdinando Vichi was a Florentine sculptor of the late 19th century. Vichi often took inspiration from classical antiquity: historicising romantic subjects was very popular in Italian sculpture of that time.
He represented other subjects too, such as this aged man with flasket, portrayed in a very realistic way. The man is probably drunk and wine is his “last love”, that is the other name of the artwork.
