Triton, in Greek mythology, is the son of the sea god Poseidon and the Nereid Amphitrite. It had a shell horn, the sound of which calmed storms and announced the arrival of the sea god. Known for the help he gave to Jason and the Argonauts in finding the route to follow, Triton was depicted with the human upper half and the lower half in the shape of a fish, while all the skin was green. Its origin is pre-Greek, probably Phoenician. In iconography, the name of Tritons designates a large number of minor marine divinities that accompany Poseidon, considered the progeny of Triton himself.
