The mythical founding theme of Ganymede is its beauty, which both the king of Crete Minos and Tantalus and Eos fell in love with, as well as the king of the gods Zeus, as it is told in the various versions of the same legend. Ganymede is a figure of classical mythology. The story tells us that he was a beautiful young man, to the point that Zeus had sent his eagle to take the young man to Olympus along with the other gods. For this reason Ganymede is always represented flanked by an eagle.
