To Shi Men, both Michelangelo Buonarroti and Leonardo da Vinci represent two vajra warriors who are guarding the entrance to the Art Palace. Instead of the conventional warriors’ ferocious features, Shi Men drew his inspiration from the culture of Chu state (1030 - 223 BCE), and
created these two sculptures in homage to these two remarkable men.
Leonardo was curious and puzzled by everything that everyone else took for granted. Inspired by one of his childhood dreams, Shi Men chose to focus on Leonardo’s curious and mysterious energy, instead of depicting Leonardo as an aged Greek philosopher.
