Benvenuto Cellini was an important sculptor and goldsmith of the 16th century. He worked for the most important courts like the Florentine’s, Roman’s and French’s one. For the French king he realized an alluring saltcellar, considered a gold working’s masterpiece. Even this inkstand is an outstanding artwork, though it is a common object. It’s very detailed and well-finished, embellished/ decorated with festoons and caryatids. There’s a pinewood on its top.
