Ludwig van Beethoven (1770-1827) was a German composer, pianist and conductor. A crucial figure in Western cultured music, Beethoven was the last major representative of Viennese classicism and is considered one of the greatest and most influential composers of all time. Listed among the greatest geniuses in the history of music, despite the deafness that struck him even before he was thirty, he continued to compose, direct and play. He left a fundamental musical production, extraordinary for expressive strength and for the ability to evoke emotions. On 7 May 1824, in Vienna, Beethoven appeared in public for the last time, for the audition of his famous “Ninth Symphony”. The public bursts into loud applause. Sitting next to the conductor, his back to the audience, the composer flips through the pages, physically inhibited to hear what he gave birth to. They have to force him to turn around so he can see the immense success of his work.
The bronze bust represents Beethoven with his characteristic leonine hair and an expressive intensity that reflects his musical prowess that can also be admired in the numerous pictorial portraits of the musician.
