Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-1791) was a prolific and influential classical music composer. At four years he already played the harpsichord and the violin, and at five he composed short minuets; his father, a talented violinist, tried to develop and exploit these qualities to the maximum, leading, among other things, his son to perform, together with his eldest daughter, in Vienna in front of Empress Maria Theresa. It would be a mistake, however, to think that Mozart's life was consumed in splendour and comfort. The honours and the success were mainly addressed to the virtuous Mozart, to the instrumentalist; as a composer he was considered too modern for his time, guilty of seeking dissonance and rash solutions; it is no coincidence that Mozart surpassed the eighteenth-century conception of music as entertainment, conditioned by the taste and ability to understand a limited cultural environment, to make it an independent language responding solely to its intimate expressive needs.
On the appearance of Mozart the most diverse and bizarre opinions still reign. In this bronze bust is represented with fine, thick, slightly wavy and pulled back hair. Front not very high, the soft forms of the chin, the prominent aquiline nose, the regular mouth and the eyes are not without a strong and serious expressiveness. He liked to wear wigs, in harmony with the fashion of the moment, and he loved expensive clothes; also visible here represented in elegant clothes typical of the eighteenth century.
