Giacomo Puccini (1858-1924) was an Italian composer, considered one of the greatest and most significant opera composers of musical history.
His early compositions were rooted in the tradition of late 19th century Italian opera. However, subsequently, Puccini succesfully developed his work in the style of realism, of which he became one of the leading exponents. The most famous works by Puccini, considered as a repertoire for the major theaters of the world, are La Bohème (1896), Tosca (1900), Madama Butterfly (1904) and Turandot (1926). Of this latter one, the composer failed to complete the score, since he died in 1924. The work was then completed by Franco Alfano.
The bronze head is probably inspired by the model for the statue of Giacomo Puccini, by Vito Tongiani, in Piazza Cittadella di Lucca. It represents the master in very elegant clothes, short hair and recognizable moustache.
