Lost wax bronze casting.
This statue is a beautiful bronze replica in reduced scale of the marble masterpiece by Michelangelo Buonarroti (1475-1574)
The original statue is the central part of the monumetal complex for the tomb of Pope Julius II.
The profeth is represented in gigantic proportions, seated, with the head turned.
The left arm is abandoned on the womb, whereas the right arm holds the law tables. The gaze of Moses is considered to be terrible, someone saying reflecting the irascible character Michelangelo had.
Somewhat more tha a legend states that Michelangelo, after having finished the statue, very satisfied with the extremely realistic result achieved, looked up at it exclaiming " Why can't you speak?"
