Lost wax bronze replica.
This graceful and delicate head of a woman is a detail of the famous sculpture "Galatea" by Stoldo Lorenzi.
The small and delicate vision of the young woman framed by a sophisticated Renaissance hairstyle, makes her one of the most beautiful heads in the collection of the Frilli Gallery.
Stoldo Lorenzi was a minor sculptor of the Mannerist period, greatly influenced by the sculptors of Mannerism, such as GiambattistaTribolo and Giambologna. The myth of Galatea is told in Ovid's Metamorphoses, where it is said that King Pygmalion is transformed into a sculptor and falls in love with a small ivory statuette he made with his own hands. The Goddess Aphrodite rewards him by transforming his sweetheart into a real woman and the two crown their love by getting married.
