Lost wax bronze replica from original mold.
Author: Sirio Tofanari (1886-1969)
Period: mid '900
Siro Tofanari was a brilliant and gifted sculptor, Florentine of the twentieth century, famous graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence, and passionate Italian animalier, in the wake of the famous French animaliers of the late nineteenth century. After the first almost impressionistic works, his style was defined and became more classic, reaching very high levels of precision and accuracy.
His favorite subjects were in fact exotic animals such as gazelles, panthers, orangutans, parrots and many others, which he knew how to render in bronze in an extremely realistic and truthful way.
This sculpture is extremely elegant and sophisticated in its relaxed posture: with its long, slender legs, this animal truly resembles a slender figure that seems to be parading in the middle of the savannah. Here it represents two gazelles, a mother with her cub, in a very naturalistic way.
